Vincent Keymer, born on November 15, 2004, in Mainz, Germany, is a chess grandmaster who has swiftly risen through the ranks to become one of the world's leading junior players. Learning chess from his parents at the age of five, Keymer showcased his prodigious talent early on by becoming the European champion with the German U18 national team in 2015 and 2017. Mainz, his hometown, is notable for hosting prestigious rapid and Chess960 tournaments, providing a rich environment for his development.
A significant milestone in Keymer's career was his astounding victory at the Grenke Chess Open in 2018. Entering the tournament as the 99th seed, he triumphed over 49 grandmasters, including four with Elo ratings above 2700, securing his first grandmaster norm at just 13 years old. This performance caught the attention of the chess world, with legends like Garry Kasparov referring to him as "exceptional." Under the mentorship of Hungarian grandmaster Peter Leko, himself a former prodigy, Keymer honed his skills and strategic acumen.
