Liren Ding
Bio
Ding Liren (October 24th, 1992) is a chess Grandmaster from China and the current World Chess Champion after defeating Ian Nepomniachtchi in the match for the world title in April of 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Ding Liren became the first World Chess Champion after Magnus Carlsen decided not to defend his title. Carlsen had been World Champion between 2013 and 2023.
Ding Liren is the highest-rated Chinese player in the history of that country. He has a peak rating of 2816 as of May 2023. He has won the following chess tournaments:
Also, in 2016 Ding Liren became the #1 player in the blitz ranking with a rating of 2875.
Ding remained unbeaten on the board for more than a year and exactly 100 games. This happened between August 2017 and November 2018 and it became a world record at the time. The record was broken by Magnus Carlsen in 2019.
