Daniil Dubov
Bio
Daniil Dmitrievich Dubov was born in Moscow, Russia on April 18, 1996. He grew up in a family influenced by chess, his grandfather Eduard Dubov was a chess arbiter and president of the Moscow Chess Federation. At the age of 6 he learned to play chess, in his first years of competition he obtained medals in the European Junior Championships: bronze medal in 2006 and silver medal in 2008. In 2009, he reached first place in the Young Stars of the World tournament tied with Aleksandr Shimanov with a score of 7.5
He obtained the Grand Master title in 2011, playing the individual European Championship. He was trained by great grand masters such as: Mikhail Ryvkin, Vasilij Gagarin, Sergei Dolmatov, Sergei Shipov, Aleksandr Morozevich and Boris Gelfand. In 2012, he shared the first place of the Russian Championship Higher League with Dmitry Andreikin and Nikita Vitiugov, this tournament was qualifying for the Superfinal of the Russian championship. At the Aeroflot Open in 2015 he tied with Ian Nepomniachtchi for first place with 7 points. He obtained third place in the 2016 Rapid World Championship and in 2018 he obtained first place in this tournament beating Magnus Carlsen. In 2020, he won the Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge online tournament beating Hikaru Nakamura in the final.
It should be noted that he has collaborated with Magnus Carlsen in the preparation of the 2018 World Championship played in London. He also participated in the best game of the year 2020, played in the Russian Championship Superfinal against Sergey Karjakin, in this game Daniil included a novelty on move 5 winning the game brilliantly.
