How to Play The Evans Gambit with FM Viktor Neustroev

Here’s a fun fact. Fischer beat Reuben Fine in a friendly game in just 17 moves. Opening used? Evans Gambit.

Fine later said Black’s job gets more difficult in this opening since you can’t play …d6 or give up a pawn to gain equality.

White tries to gain a tempo or two right off the bat and stop Black from castling his king away.

If you are an Evans Gambit player, you are looking for an aggressive, double-edged game where you keep pushing Black with every move until he cracks for good.

This is not the cup of tea for (strictly) positional players.

However, if you are looking for a challenging game against lower-rated players and literally “troll” them throughout the game, then this opening is for you.

Good news, FM Viktor Neustroev’s new training Evans Gambit has reached just on time.

From Anderssen Variation to McDonnell Defense to Evans Gambit Declined… Viktor goes through each variation in great detail, explaining every potential alternative and its repercussions on both White and Black.

What you will learn:

  • Open, dynamic positions. As an Evans Gambit player, be ready to maneuver wins out of highly open and dynamic positions where the correct piece positioning can make or break your game. Learn the fundamental ideas in this opening now.
  • Threats, threats, threats. Do not let White rest for a moment. You will get enough chances to do this. When you lose that pawn, you gain something much more crucial that wins you the game. Discover the art of exploiting weak squares and continuous threats in the Evans Gambit.
  • Opening traps. What if Black captured the pawn with …Nxd5? The White knight captures the f7 pawn and then Q to f3! Black loses the right to castle and White is still equal in material and ahead in development. Knowing the lines helps though.
