In this course, GM Damian Lemos offers you a rock-solid opening repertoire to play the Trompowsky Attack (1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5) with White.

The Trompowsky is a dynamic chess opening that immediately challenges Black’s setup.

The Trompowsky is also a surprise opening, nobody is expecting it, so you get an edge by throwing your opponent’s preparation out the window.

It diverges from traditional lines, aiming to disrupt Black’s development and seize control of the center.

In the Trompowsky, Black can either ignore the Bishop on g5 and play moves like

  • 2…g6
  • 2…d5
  • 2…e6
  • 2…c5

Or it can play actively with 2…Ne4, directly challenging the Bishop on g5.

Either way, the Trompowsky Attack emphasizes rapid piece mobilization, aiming for an unbalanced position.

All these alternatives are analyzed by GM Damian Lemos on this course, although Damian will recommend you play two lines in particular: Bxf6 and Bh4.

In the scenario where Black plays either g6, e6, d5 or c5, Damian suggests Bxf6. If Black plays 2…Ne4, Damian suggests Bh4.

After any of these lines arise, tactical opportunities abound, and that is why this opening suits aggressive players seeking asymmetrical positions, where strategic nuances and creative attacking ideas flourish.

The Trompowsky can sometimes require precise execution, but it promises rich middlegame possibilities in return, making it a formidable weapon to play for the win with White.

If you learn the Trompowsky with GM Damian Lemos, you will increase your understanding of piece activity, control of key squares, and the importance of flexibility in chess.

Its surprise value and potential for attacking play make it a valuable addition to any player’s repertoire.
