Build a complete and ambitious repertoire for Black with IM Robert Ris

If you are looking for a fighting repertoire against 1.d4, this course gives you a complete practical system built around the Triangle System.

In this video course, IM Robert Ris presents a full repertoire for Black starting with 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6, and after Nc3, meeting White with …c6 — entering the Triangle System.

As Robert explains in the introduction, this is an incredibly sharp repertoire, a little bit theoretical, but also full of ideas and explanations. Most importantly, it is an ideal repertoire to play for a win with the black pieces.

And as Robert puts it himself: “No boring lines at all.”

What is the Triangle System?

The Triangle System arises after the moves:

1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6

Black starts with a sound developing setup, controls the center, and then enters a flexible structure that can lead to a wide variety of positions.

One of the reasons Robert considers this system so interesting is that it can lead to many different pawn structures. In this course, he begins with the critical lines based on e4, covered through the Marshall Gambit, before moving on to the Nooteboom Variation, Catalan-type structures, 4.Qc2 systems, Stonewall structures, and the Carlsbad structure.

The goal is not simply to equalize. As Robert explains, this is a repertoire for Black players who want to aim for more and fight for winning chances from the opening.

Learn from IM Robert Ris

IM Robert Ris is an International Master from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

In this course, he shares a complete repertoire against 1.d4 based on an opening he has personally played himself. In the introduction, Robert explains that he has actually played the Triangle System with both colors, and that the course includes new ideas, novelties, and games from his own experience.

That practical background is one of the key strengths of the course: you are not only learning theory, but also how an experienced International Master understands and handles these positions.

What you will learn

Inside the course, IM Robert Ris shows you how to handle the Triangle System against White’s most important tries, including:

  • the critical Marshall Gambit lines
  • White’s main options after 8.Be2 Na6
  • the important 8.Ne2 system
  • the more solid 6.Nc3 variation
  • the Nooteboom Variation
  • the Anti-Nooteboom line with 5.Bg5
  • the 5.e4 line in the Nooteboom
  • White’s 6th move alternatives
  • the Catalan setup with 4.g3
  • the 4.Qc2 system
  • Stonewall structures with and without Nc3
  • the Carlsbad structure after 4.cxd5 exd5

Throughout the course, Robert explains not only the moves, but also the ideas, plans, structures, and practical details you need to know in order to play this repertoire with confidence.
