Tan Zhongyi
Tan Zhongyi is a Chinese grandmaster who has made significant strides in the world of chess. She reached the pinnacle of her career when she became the Women's World Chess Champion from 2017 to 2018, defeating GM Anna Muzychuk in rapid tiebreaks. Although she lost the title to GM Ju Wenjun in 2018, Tan's resilience and dedication to the game never wavered.
In 2024, Tan's prowess was on full display as she won the FIDE Women's Candidates Tournament, earning herself another opportunity to challenge Ju Wenjun and potentially reclaim the world championship title. That same year, she triumphed at the Cairns Cup, securing the $50,000 first-place prize.
