Linares 2009 – Grischuk is the winner on tiebreak

This traditional tournament took place back in Spain after three years of being disputed in Mexico. Most of the top Grandmasters were part this tournamet reinforcing that it’s one of the most important competitions of the year.

All the games of the last round were drawn, leaving two players at the top: Vassily Ivanchuk and Alexander Grischuk. Both of them with 8.0 pts, follower by Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand.

The tiebreak system awards the victory to the player who has more wins and in this case the champion is the Russian GM Alexander Grischuk.
