Bazna: King’s Tournament new edition

ROMGAZ and the Chess Club Society “Elisabeta Polihroniade” of Bucharest are organizing a new edition of King’s Tournament in Bazna, Romania.

In this third edition the tournament reached the 20th category with an average ELO of 2729. The participants are: Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaidjan, Elo 2756, ranking 5-th in the World), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine, Elo 2746, 12-th in the World), Alexei Shirov (Spain, Elo 2745, 13-th in the World), Boris Gelfand (Israel, Elo 2733, 15-th in the World), Gata Kamsky (SUA, Elo 2720, 24 in the World) and Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, ex European Champion 2005 (Elo 2675, 55-th in the World).

Alexei Shirov played a Rossolimo against Vassily Ivanchuk. He sacrificed a knight but then Ivanchuk sacrificed back and at the end the game was drawn.

Boris Gelfand played against Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu. The Romanian GM also produced another knight sacrifice but went in time trouble and suffered a second defeat.
